DIY Lights For Your Garden

A garden is a place where you grow plants, flowers, fruits or vegetables. Gardening is an art of cultivating a ground to make it a garden. Gardening has been one of the basic and manual activities that never gets old. Gardening allows you to produce your own safe food. It is proven that it can reduce stress and depression and it can be a good form of exercise too. Nowadays, despite the modernization of our generation, more and more people are still engaged in gardening. You can also see that most people now have their garden at home. Not only can it give you a healthy lifestyle, it can also add attraction or glamour to your home.

There are many ways you can be creative to your garden. You can add pebbles, walking paths or if you want your garden to look brighter and colorful by day, you can add colors to your pots. Gardens are really visible and brighter during daytime because of sunlight but at night it is really advisable to put on outdoor lights.

Lighting your garden can sometime be costly. Aside from the materials that you need, you also need to hire electrician or persons that can install outdoor lightings for you. But there are also easy ways you can light your garden by yourself. So If you don’t want to buy expensive ready made lights available at hardwares or department stores such as wall or post lights and chandeliers, these cheap and easy garden lighting ideas might be good for you.

Mason Jars or Bottles

You can replace those expensive chandelier by these cheap easy to do-it-yourself mason jar lights. In order to make this, you need to have large mason jars, cord with a socket, light bulbs, spray paint (optional), hammer, nails and pliers. When you completed all the materials needed, then this are the steps on how you do it:

Step 1. Take the cover of your mason jar and a pen. Simply trace the outline of the socket to your mason jar cover.

Step 2: Punch holes around the circle or the outline of the socket by using a nail and a hammer. Holes must be close to one another.

Step 3. Using your pliers, rip away the outline of the socket. You must be left with a hole that the socket must fit because this is where we put our bulb later.

Step 4. This step is optional. When you want the ripped part of the cover to blend to its color, spray paint the whole cover. Let it dry and proceed to the next step.

Step 5. Punch more holes to the outmost part of your mason jar cover. This is so that the heat can escape when you put your lights on the mason jars.

Step 6. Wedge the mason jar cover to its base and assemble everything. Finally, you are ready to hang everywhere you want your mason jar lights.

If you want the cheapest version of these mason jar lights, you can use candles instead of bulbs. The candle version might require a lot of work since you need to light up your jars manually one by one but it surely is can still light up and provide the same glamour and cozy feeling on your garden plus you can have lesser electricity consumption which means a cut on your electricity bill as well.

Ping-pong string lights/ Patio lights

String lights are a number of lights attached to a length of wire at a set intervals. It is one of the lighting ideas you can put outdoor that can really add to the attractiveness of places in your house such as terrace, veranda and garden that is why it is also called patio lights. Making your own string lights might takes time especially when you use bigger circle bulbs and and do all the electrical jobs manually. It requires numbers of electrical materials needed as well.

For you to make ping-pong string lights, you need to have the following: String lights or the most well known as Christmas lights, ping-pong balls, and cutter.

Step 1: To start making your own ping pong string lights, the first thing you need to do is to get your cutter and cut a small x in your ping pong balls.

Step 2:When all your ping pong balls are ready, you just need to put those ping pong balls to the tiny bulbs of your string lights that you already bought by pushing those tiny bulb to the ping pong balls where you cut an x.

Step 3: After that, your ping pong string lights are all done and ready. You can hang it around your garden wherever you want.

Tin Cans

This is one of the cheapest way to light your garden since you can just use recycled tin cans. To make this you need to prepare cleaned tin cans, a hammer, nails, spray paint, pliers and candles then follow this easy steps:

Step 1. Clean the recycled tin cans. Remove the labels and glue.

Step 2. Fill tin cans with water and put them in fridge. Leave it until the ice gets

solid. This process will help the can to hold its shape when we punch our design or patterns on the next steps.

Step 3. Start making your design. Get the frozen can out of the fridge. By using a hammer and nail, start punching out your design in your cans. You can make an outline first if you want before punching holes. Don’t forget to put your handle.

Step 4. When your design is finished, let the ice melt and let it dry.

Step 5. Paint your cans (optional). If you want to add colors to your cans you can use paint or permanent color markers.

Step 6. Put on a candle and then your outdoor tin can lights are ready.
